Bill Veale

Bill was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. As a young boy, he enjoyed hiking in the surrounding countryside to sketch the landscape. The natural scenes in the area of his childhood home fascinated him and ultimately inspired him to capture their beauty on paper. This interest was "put on hold" for a period of 25 years, as Bill pursued his career in the field of teaching cabinet making and architectural drafting. Prior to retirement, Bill decided to develop his artisitic skills, with a view to devoting himself to painting full time.

About the Artist

Bill is shown here working in front of his display of paintings at the Perth Farmers Market
.

Since 1982, he has taken lessons in watercolour and acrylic painting with Magaret Grothier, Brian Atyeo and Tony Couch. He has also studied at the Ottawa School of Fine Arts, as well as the Haliburton School of Fine Arts.

Bill's main concerns are to portray the immensity of the landscape, its atmosphere, light, colour and texture. His favorite subjects are rural settings, such as those in Lanark County and Algonquin Provincial Park, in which colour and form are boldly dipicted. Bill's work is noted for its light and reflection, which capture the mood and feeling of the subject.

Bill enjoys "plein air" paiting, as well as working in his home studio. His studio/gallery is located near the town of Perth, Ontario. The topography of Lanark County provides much of his inspiration and subject matter. He has also travelled across Canada and the northern United States in search of varied subject matter for paintings.

His watercolour and acrylic paintings hang in private and corporate collections throughout North America, Europe and Australia.
