Perhaps you were wondering who wrote this site? - or who is responsible for this site? Read on!
This is the unfolding story of Historic Perth Ontario.... its people, buildings, businesses, and places through its past, present and future.
Perth has many stories to tell... from its lively past, to a current reality through to a dynamic future.
This site is for the people of Perth... the citizens, business people, artists, artisans, ...everyone, to contribute their part of the overall story.
The objective is simple - to introduce the people of Perth to the rest of the world ... to engage the world in a human dialog about Perth.
Mark Twain once said, "It isn't what you don't know that gets you into trouble - it's what you know, that ain't so!"
The idea for this site was born out of a conversation with someone in Ottawa. I was telling someone that my wife and I had a store in Perth (having run a retail store in the town for about 8 years). The response was, "Oh, is Perth big enough for a store?" This made me realize that even though Ottawa and Perth were neighbours (less than an hour apart), probably a large majority of Ottawa people had never heard of Perth, much less be aware of its many shops, attractions, festivals, colourful history, or its probable future. Those that did know of Perth seemed to hold a perception based on what they saw as they sped through Perth on (Highway 7 - Canadian Tire, Home Hardware and fast food restaurants [yawn]). I wanted to be part of changing that perception... and decided to use the expertise of my consulting company to build a web site that helped address this apparent knowledge gap.
The site would not be a "one more yellow pages" site... there were many filling this need already. It would not be "advertising" [news flash: people do not use the internet to receive advertising - they use the internet to interconnect with people and information]. It would be oriented toward "people" and "story telling" since we wanted to engage our readers about Perth. And finally, since my company does not sell disk space, computer time or advertising I would not charge a fee to be part of the site. My company would underwrite the entire cost of the effort. We would also employ the latest XML technology over time to implement the site, hence becoming a demonstration of what can be achieved with the new XML technologies.
Now although there is no charge for this, it is not "free". To be part of this site you need to contribute your valuable time to tell your part of the story of Perth.
We hope you enjoy this effort
So how can this all be done for "free"? Well, as I said, I use this site to try out new technologies and techniques. Since it is real and live, it
makes a much better test bed than merely training exercises. However, throughout the site I have means whereby you could support this
site. For example, if you are interested in setting up a web site for yourself, you could use the following
service - which will also result in a reward coming to this site.
I tried it out and it really does allow one to create a site with absolutely no knowledge of HTML. See My Personal Site for an example
of what can be done with their service. If interested go to:

When I refer to a book about Perth I will give you a link to the Valley Book Shop in Perth who can get this book for you. I would apprecitate if you told the book store where you found the reference. (all-about-perth.com site).
Oh.. one more thing. The site is made for leisurely browsing. Don't be afraid to check out highlighted words - they usually lead to more explanation. If a link leads to an outside site, that site will be opened in a separate window so you won't get lost. Since the story of Perth is never ending... expect to see the site updated every few days.
My company - CyberSpace Industries 2000 Inc. specilizes in XML Training and Consulting, web design, and recently promotion and advertising. Visit our website for more information about the company, course, and technical papers.
