Loon Lodge Bed and Breakfast

We are the Van Slooten family with our dog Hartlin. We invite you to our comfortable country home just feet away from a sandy beach on the Big Rideau Lake. We serve delicious breakfasts and freshly ground coffee in our breakfast room.

Relax in front of the fireplace, surrounded by antiques and hardwood floors. Nearby, nature studies, hiking, fishing, watersports, antiquing, and golf await. Murphy's Point Provincial Park and the Rideau Trail system are nearby. You can visit nearby historic Perth for superb shopping and restaurants as well as Smiths Falls with its museums and Hershey Chocolate Factory.

Perth first came into our lives about 6 years ago. We (my husband, 3 year old son, and myself) were on our way to a rental cottage on Big Rideau Lake we had taken for a week during the summer. We had to pass through Perth to get there, and I remember thinking to myself what a charming little town. We must come back.

Every summer after that, we did come back. Finally, almost 2 years ago now, we bought a large house on Big Rideau Lake, in Rideau Lakes Township. Ironically, the house we bought was only a few houses down from the one we had rented! The house was bought with the intention of opening a Bed and Breakfast, maybe in the next 2-3 years.

That plan was accelerated in December of 2001 when my husband was laid off from his high tech job in Kanata. It became readily apparent after 3 months of job searching, that there were no high tech positions to be had. Enter Plan B! We sold the house in Kanata, and moved to Rideau Lakes in June of last year. On July 1, 2002, Loon Lodge Bed and Breakfast was born. We are now opening our doors to tourists from all over the world. We visit Perth several times a week (instead of once or twice a year), although now there is a lot more of a business component than a personal one, but the shopping is still superb!

We hope to see you soon.
