About the Artist
Perth's Bodicca Mitchell
is a remarkable
17 year old musician with
a promising future.
Equally at home with
BLUES, JAZZ or SPIRITUALS
this exciting young lady plays solid swinging piano
a la Jay McShann or Teddy
Wilson.
Her bluesy voice is very reminiscent of
Billy Holiday, Peggy Lee or Ruth Brown.
Bodicca has a warm and comfortable stage presence.
She communicates easily with audiences that range from
Hotel Lounges to Bars to Restaurants to Music Festivals.
Her Comprehensive knowledge of BLUES JAZZ
and POP music allows her to dialogue in detail
on the history of the music she is playing.
Bodicca has a repertoire of over 160 pieces
that allows her to easily cover a four hour venue.
Bodicca's childhood was filled with music.
Since before she was even born,
from early morning till late at night her household
reverberated to the sounds of
BLUES, JAZZ, SPIRITUALS, LATIN, FOLK and CLASSICS.
By the time she was seven, her affinity for some
of the great JAZZ and BLUES artists was apparent.
Billy Holiday, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw,
Count Basie, B.B King, Jim Croce,
Jay McShann, Peggy Lee
all had influences on her eclectic musical tastes.
She recalls deciding at a very early age
that Jimmy Rushing's Jazzy "Mr. Five by Five"
would be the first song she would learn...
and it was...
and still is...
an important part of her impressive repertoire.
