Gary Barr
About the ArtistGary Barr is pictured here in front of a display of his paintings at the farmers market in the Tay Basin. A lifelong interest in art and love of the outdoors led Gary to painting. He began exhibiting in stores and arts and crafts shows, then one-man shows, juried shows and finally in art gallaries in Ottawa, Toronto, Belleville, Brockville, Perth,Lanark and Almonte. Focusing on heritage scenes, landscapes and wildlife paintings in oils and watercolours, he allows the subject to dictate the medium and technique. His paintings now hang in numerous professional offices and private collections in Canada, United States, England, Switzerland and Germany. The Intelligencer of Belleville, ON said, "Gary Barr is a nature lover and translates his appreciation for the wilderness into striking paintings."
The picture shown here is "Summit Cameo" from "The Charm of Perth" series. In 1833, Robert Lyon and John Wilson faced each other in a duel over the honour of Elizabeth Hughes. She attended Perth's school for young ladies, was a teacher, and was also employed as a nanny to the Boulton children who lived in the stately brick house on Drummond Street known as "The Summit". The duel culminated in the death of Lyon and Miss Hughes eventual marriage to John Wilson. Cast by the shadows of lilacs in spring sunlight, the profile of a beautiful younglady deep in thought appears on the sunlit wall beside the steps. |
