Meet Kathyrn Patton - owner of Silhouette Ladies Wear
I was born 13th of 18 children in Millbridge, a small village north of Madoc. I first started work in Peterbourough at a department store, working my way through college. In 1977, I moved with my family to Perth where I worked at the Beamish store until the store closed in 1986, becoming assistant manager and then manager during that time. I enjoyed working with customers so much that I started my own business in 1987 at 37 Foster Street and then in 1993 moved to my current location at 43 Gore Street East. My specialty is women's clothing for all ages. You can find fashions for the mother of the bride, for a special holiday or cruise, or just everyday wear here. To complement the clothing I have jewellry as well as nylons and lingerie. I feel it is important to understand the requirements of my individual customers since I do all the buying for the store. I try to match my individual customers requirements to what I find at the trade shows in Montreal and Toronto. My customers appreciate this since it means that not everyone in town is going to show up with the same outfit. Since I concentrate on quality classics rather than trendy fashions, the customer finds their fashions are not only in style for many years, but also last a long time. When you visit my store you will notice I adopted the towns heritage theme. Soft greens and heritage wallpaper are complemented by early photographs including some of my family. I have a guest book at the front of the store to receive comments from my customers. Although I read these comments each day, it is the personal relationship I establish with each customer that is important. I hope to meet you shortly to demonstrate how I can assist you with your clothing requirements.
Our current building has a colourful history. Gus Quattrocchi, a
long time local resident has collected an extensive history
of the Merchants of Perth. He has compiled the list of all
the merchants who have occupied this building all the way
back to 1832. The property started out as a 2 story stone
house erected by Alex McFathron. By 1922-1928, J. Quattrocchi
operated a retail and wholesale fruit business from this
location. Bananas, a relatively unknown fruit at the time
was introduced to Perth from this site. By 1945, the present red
brick building emerged off the drawing board. In 1993,
Silhouette Ladies Wear opened at the 34 Gore street address, moving
from the 37 Foster address occupied from 1987 to 1993.
