Some feedback from the Official Opening

The Mayor of Arctic Bay, Joanasie Akumalik, accompanied by his wife Mary, welcomed the large crowd to the exhibit on May 17th. Here are a few photos and videos from that event.

The exhibit has some spectacular art works including these pieces. The piece on the left is a whale bone scupture by Danny Taqto.

Many of the pieces were available for sale to the public. All proceeds returned to the artists in Artic Bay.

A traditional lamp called a kullik was used as part of the opening ceremony.

Drum Dancing and Throat Singing were a special feature of the opening. Drum dancer Simeanie Kunnuk and Throat singers Kendra Tagoona and Emily Karpik are part of the Innuit community now living in Ottawa. We hope to have some short streaming video of these events shortly.
