all-about-perth.com Site StatisticsI now have uopdated stats that I hope to get in here shortly. The good news is that the number of visitors is continuing to climb. Since Jan 2003 to mid way through October:
The Average number of Visitors per day has climbed to 174, while the maximum visitors per day on average is 279. Our largest per day number of visitors over the last year is 365. Number of VisitorsThe following charts shows the number of visitors to the site over the last two years. The two months with low number of visitors appears to be a glitch introduced when Bell switched to their new service and new statistics reporting. Note that we don't report the "number of hits" as this is essentially meaningless. For example, a home page with 15 small graphics on it may record 16 hits - but there is a single visitor. We now appear to consistently have between 5000-6000 visitors per month.
Visitors from where? It is very surprising to see where all the visitors come from. Here for example is results for December 2004 showing we are visible to some pretty exotic places.
Does this generate any business for Perth? One might ask if the visitors from other countries generate any business for Perth? Here are two recent examples. A lady visited Silhouette's Ladies Wear saying her daughter told her that this was her kind of store. Nothing unusual there, except her daughter lives in England, and had read about the store on the internet. An e-mail came into urbanMarket - Perth from Germany. They had discovered the store on the internet and wanted to purchase a gift for a relative of theirs living in Perth. We also field questions and emails from various visitors. These included:
What are visitors looking for?The following list of search phrases used to wind up in the all-about-perth.com site gives you some idea:
Most of this might be as expected. It is surprising that so many people were looking for a sketch of a guitar, and wound up looking at Dave Dawson's page which contains his sketches of a guitar and his music tributes to Jimmy Rodgers. A search on knitting kits wound up looking at the Knitting Studio page. The search on nunavut directed viewers to the Ik-pi-ar-juk-miut, People of The Pocket page in the Perth Museum. Readers might be curious as to why people searching for "hot women" found their way to the all-about-perth.com site. No - we don't have a "hot women" page! One of the very annoying practices currently in vogue by spammers is to find guest books and place in these books fake messages that promote their own web site (typically for porn, illegal software and drugs). If they can get this link onto a few million guestbooks, the search engines will promote their site to the top of the search order. I hve got rid of the guestbook since it was getting taken over by spammers. I implemented a Blog instead. Check it out. |
