This display and it's companion web site shop-heritage-perth.com are meant to inform the people of Ottawa and Visitors about this jewel of a shopping destination less than an hour soutwest of Ottawa. Perth - it's more than a destination - it's a lifestyle.
  • Lifestyle Centres are the hottest new retail trend coming out of California. These lifestyle centres are simulations of a small-town downtown.   • There is an interesting new website called FlickR that is making the news. The following is a little tool that they provide to show some selected pictures. These are from "Architectural Reminiscences" from the PAST section.

  • Experimental Map System "Where on Earth?" is added. This neat facility from Google is still in experimental release, but promises to be excellent. You will first be presented with a map of North America. You may type in something like "inflatable kayaks in Perth Ontario" to find out who in town sells inflatable kayaks - or "Ingenuity in Perth Ontario" or "CD in Perth Ontario" to find out where to buy the Ingenuity line of washable suits or CD's. Generally you type in " 'product name' in Perth Ontario".

    Alternately you may type in "Perth Ontario" into the "Location" box on the right, or a "business name" into the "Business" box on the right and you will be taken to a view of Perth from 10,000 feet. Use the Zoom slider on the left to get to street level. Type in a business name or a product or an address an the system will show you where that is. Click on the map and you can drag it around on the screen to explore the town.

  • A BIA subcommittee is targeting the design and publication of a new "Downtown Merchants Newsletter", a new quarterly targeted at shoppers and potential shoppers in Perth. First issue is scheduled to hit the streets on April 1, 2005. It will be a 4 page newsletter featuring several of the merchants and a restaurant in each issue. An insert is planned to have a map, and lists of all merchants, restaurants and points of interest in the downtown area. The first issue will be available only in town. For subsequent issues we intent to target key potential customer areas.

  • Stay tuned for a summer long TV promotion of the Historic Town of Perth on The New RO, probably starting in June. The Promotion and Advertising Committee of the Perth BIA is agressively promoting Perth as "the destination" for the people of Ottawa (and others of course). Each TV spot will feature the town and one or more Merchants in town. This is the start of an entire series of activities designed to increase visitors to the town.
